About the event

Come hear Carol Hendrickson talk about the current Art Exhibit - Traje maya: Maya Dress from Guatemala

In Guatemala traje means ‘Maya dress,’ the clothing traditionally worn by Maya people. Today traje is largely used by Maya women with many of the most beautiful pieces made on backstrap and foot looms. Patterns, colors, and dress forms reflect the identity of wearers and relate to issues of Maya pride, politics, and resistance. Drawing on decades of research in Guatemala and a closetful of textiles, anthropologist Carol Hendrickson shares traje pieces, photographs, and insights.
